The role

The Executive Director, Mental Health and Specialised Services (MH&SS) provides strategic leadership and assumes responsibility and accountability directly to the Health Service Chief Executive for the effective and efficient delivery of all mental health and specialised services within the division of MH&SS. 

This includes state-wide leadership responsibilities for High Secure Inpatient Forensic Services, Queensland Centre of Mental Health Learning, Queensland Centre for Mental Health Research, and Queensland Centre for Mental Health Benchmarking.

The role will implement strategic initiatives associated with meeting the demands of the projected growth of the population catchment of West Moreton and will lead West Moreton in realising the vision of transitioning Ipswich Hospital to a tertiary level healthcare facility. 

The Executive Director is accountable for the Mental Health and Specialised Services budget of $131 million and 800 full time equivalent (FTE) roles.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Executive leadership experience in the health service industry environment, preferably in the field of mental health, alcohol and other drugs, disabilities or related field, with a clinical, quality and performance management focus.
  • Executive level leadership in managing and coordinating internal teams and multi-disciplinary project teams, exercising sound judgement and effective responses to the demands of a high-pressure environment.
  • Understanding and/or experience of the overarching responsibilities that fall within the duties as a Mental Health Delegate responsible for the administrative functions under the Mental Health Act 2016.
  • Record of achievement in setting business direction and investment and in delivering innovative and sustainable service delivery improvements in a health service environment.
  • Demonstrated executive level communication, negotiation, persuasion and interpersonal skills, including proven experience in developing high level strategies for communicating and consulting with government organisations, internal and external stakeholders, professional bodies, non-government organisations, academic bodies and the community.
  • Effectively engages, liaises and negotiates with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including non-government organisations in the development, implementation and delivery of high quality health services.

  • Relevant tertiary and/or business qualifications are desirable and will be highly regarded.
