Clinical Trauma Fellow 

The successful candidate will join an existing team of enthusiastic and motivated Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons and Consultant Orthogeriatricians, covering general trauma, limb reconstruction surgery and specialist hand and wrist services, and other orthopaedic sub-specialties.  The service covers two orthopaedic wards and daily trauma surgery at the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI).  

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide ward-based care supporting the Orthopaedic Trauma Care service and the OrthoGeriatric Liaison Service, oncall for general trauma, particularly for fractured neck of femur and community trauma; in addition to ward work the post holder will be encouraged to develop their clinical, surgical and professional skills with a view to progressing towards the level of a middle grade surgeon. Involvement in clinical audit, quality improvement projects and teaching is also strongly encouraged. 

The successful candidate will work at SHO level on a full shift pattern with participation in the SHO oncall rota (band 2B). 

The clinical role involves working in the department of T&O in the adult trauma unit as part of the Severn Major Trauma Network.  The adult service is comprised of 12 full time consultants, 8 specialist registrars, 3 core surgical trainees and 6 foundation 1 and 2 doctors as well as clinical education fellows, a limb reconstruction fellow and upper limb fellow. The BRI is a Trauma unit and receives referrals from across the region for complex trauma and orthopaedic reconstruction of the upper and lower limbs and the Bristol Children’s Hospital (BCH) is a paediatric Major Trauma Centre. The on call duties involve covering the BCH out of hours and on weekends.
