About the PTRS:
PTRS provides assessment and ongoing treatment and management of trauma related mental health disorders for eligible individuals. The PTRS provides comprehensive and clinically-targeted PTSD treatment in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
PTRS’s mission is to provide expert treatment to individuals and their families experiencing mental health conditions that have arisen as a result of, or have been exacerbated by, the experience of traumatic events or occupational trauma and stress. The staffing is multidisciplinary including consultant psychiatrist, psychiatry registrar, unit manager, nursing staff (including a community psychiatric nurse), occupational therapist, social worker, welfare worker and ancillary staff.
The Service also takes a leadership role in the delivery of expert teaching, training, consultancy and research to individuals and agencies involved in the delivery of services to those affected by trauma related mental health issues.
Referrals are accepted from a wide variety of sources including Australian Defence Force, DVA counsellors, general practitioners, public psychiatric services, VVCS, private psychologist and psychiatrists, allied health clinicians and directly from patients or their family.
