About the role

The Clinical Nurse will provide expert clinical and health service knowledge in relation to a variety of health conditions and have a co-designed approach through community engagement to the development of policy, procedures and work process specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients accessing outpatient services across Metro North.  The Clinical Nurse will apply principles of contemporary evidence-based consumer/person focused care, education, leadership and portfolio management.   

The Clinical Nurse will provide support and direction to the Health Worker and non-registered nursing personnel in more complex situations.

The Clinical Nurse is required to support Metro North Outpatient Strategies provide culturally safe and responsive follow-up to decrease Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patient Fail to Attend (FTA) and Did Not Respond (DNR) for outpatient services.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:

  • Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with Schedule 2, Nurses and Midwives (Queensland Health Award) (2015) – Generic Level Statements (GLS) Nurse Grade 6 Band 1 and the Queensland Health and Metro North HHS commitments and values, in achievement of the organisational goals and Domains of Practice.
  • Practice in accordance with code of ethics, professional standards and legislation affecting nursing/midwifery practice by maintaining current knowledge and competence within scope of position.
  • Apply advanced clinical nursing expertise, including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation, to deliver a high standard of consumer/person centred care.
  • High level knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, protocols and history, as well as demonstrated experience in engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health inequalities and health issues faced by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, including social determinants that impact health outcomes.
