About the role

Deliver high level core social work services as part of the multidisciplinary team to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and to their families and carers accessing the Women's Business Shared Pathway, Women's and Newborn Services within the Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital (RBWH) and Metro North Health (MNH), so as to optimise the psychosocial outcomes of their utilisation of health care services. Duties are of a complex and varied nature and the majority are performed with a high level of independence.  The position also provides mentoring and clinical practice supervision to less experienced staff and students.

Knowledge, skills and expertise

 Clinical Practice

  • High level of knowledge, expertise and skill in delivering Social Work services and intervention strategies of a complex nature and that are culturally safe and appropriate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

 Communication

  • Ability to work effectively and credibly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples (including clients and carers) with a clear understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, protocols and implementation of culturally safe practice.
  • High level writing, oral and creative skills to disseminate information and professional advice to multi-disciplinary clinical professionals, and patients and their families/carers in the clinical context.

 Leadership and management

  • Ability to monitor and report clinical work practices and outcomes, as well as initiate, plan and evaluate local service improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to provide clinical practice supervision to to staff, students and assistants, to ensure the maintenance of clinical standards.
