About you: 

You are a qualified Registered Nurse or Health Practitioner with demonstrated high-level clinical skills, knowledge, and experience in the provision of palliative care services with a focus on the provision of a person-centred and effective continuum of palliative care services and advanced interpersonal, consultation and negotiation skills and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to senior managers, key stakeholders, multidisciplinary team members and the target client group. You can provide leadership with confidence and integrity, and work collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders and organisations to deliver contemporary health care, within a dynamic interdisciplinary health environment.

Your opportunity: 

To provide quality leadership, governance, co-ordination, management, and strategic planning of services delivered by the Cairns Integrated Palliative Care Services with an emphasis on safe, quality, cost-effective, evidence-based care in a multidisciplinary environment. The successful applicant will oversee, in collaboration with the Clinical Director of Palliative Care Medicine, The Nurse Unit Manager, Gordonvale Hospital, Directors of Allied Health and Administration Team Leaders, the operational performance including human, financial and technical resources ensuring alignment with Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service directions, standards and plans.

Your role: 

  • Collaboratively guide the development of the palliative care service, maintaining highly effective interpersonal skills at all levels, influencing through consultation, presentation, and negotiation, including development of new and novel solutions across disciplines and specialities to address complex clinical and organisational problems within the service, ensuring that service models are based on evidence, address gaps in capabilities and contribute to value-based, sustainable healthcare.
  • Operationally manage and coordinate the multidisciplinary professional team as directed by the CHHHS Palliative Care Organisation Chart by:
  • Supplying strategic direction based on District, State-wide and National personnel, and reporting bodies by providing advocacy and advice for future service planning, including multidisciplinary professional workforce planning.
  • Ensure Service Performance Appraisal and Development agreements meet mandatory requirements.
  • Provide clinical leadership and direction to multidisciplinary professional clinicians in collaboration with the Nursing, Medical and Allied Health Directors.
