_Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) is seeking an experienced Staff Specialist to join our team at Sydney Local Health District_


We are looking for a Staff Specialist in Public Health Medicine The primary purpose of the role is to provide consultative specialty services in Public Health Medicine, and to participate in teaching, research, quality improvement and administrative activities and management of services and staff within the Public Health Unit and across SLHD as required.

The Staff Specialist in Public Health Medicine provides operational and specialist roles, including high level support and technical advice on the range of public health aspects in the Public Health Unit (PHU), working closely with the Director, other Staff Specialists and multidisciplinary teams in the Unit.

A specific purpose of this role is to develop the Public Health Unit's understanding and intelligence on the risks to health and opportunities for health gain that exist in the population of SLHD, including potential responses, consistent with the priorities and strategies of Sydney LHD.

The Public Health Unit operates within a broader academic environment requiring the Staff Specialist to display a high standard of professional performance and encouragement and support of education, research and professional development among PHU staff.


The successful applicant will be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine and/or other equivalent specialist recognition as provided for in the NSW Staff Specialists (State) Award.

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the NSW Staff Specialist (State) Award.
All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Additionally, Category A workers are required to receive a booster dose three months after completing the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (IM011 immunisation medical exemption form) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW. Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.


To be employed by NSW Health, you are required to provide evidence of current immunity status that complies with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy.
