Planning and Development is now recruiting for the position of
WHSOfficer.The role will have the following responsibilities but are not limited to:Ensuring WHS reporting inputs are submitted on time.Ensuring PMO/Corporate is informed of all incidents and the follow-up actions of incidents.Managing department personnel issues including quantity and quality of workProvide contractors with a set of minimum controls relating to health, safety and environmental management or relevant project delivery.Liaising with project personnel, Owner, and contractors to ensure alignment and consistency in HSE.Management Plan development and implementation.Participating as required with project management or contractors concerning all scheduled internal or external project audits.Review and evaluate the construction contractor’s safe work plans.Coordinating and conducting scheduled and unscheduled inspections of work areas in conjunction with project management, contractors, and employees, as applicable.Where applicable, the overseeing and management of the safety and administrative personnel on site.Liaising with the project manager on core team resource requirements (people, major equipment, etc.) for follow-up and implementation. This includes assisting project management in recruiting, training, and evaluating WHS professionals for construction execution.Evaluate relevant project reporting received from contractors relating to WHS management and identify exceptions/areas for discussion.Investigation and reporting of safety incidents via monthly reporting.Ensuring that appropriate competency training, including a system to verify the understanding of the WHS responsibilities, is provided for all employees and that contractors do the same for their employees.Overseeing the development and implementation of a supervisory leadership training course to be attended by all supervisory personnel.Facilitating the promotion of WHS awareness and incident prevention with all levels of project personnel through utilization of WHS notice boards and attendance at toolbox meetings. This includes the distribution and presentation of material on WHS education, promotion, and awareness.Ensuring, in conjunction with project contractors, the display and disseminationEnsure environmental management plans are maintained and managed.Maintenance of safety equipment, first aid, equipment, and medical suppliesGovernance of safe work procedures including site inductionsReporting and registering of compliance documentation – PNG Mines Safety and Inspection Act and Regulations, SOPs and JSAs, trade certificates, PNG driver's license and G1 license and trained and ticketed to use specified plant and equipment, police clearance, medical certificate, special certifications (i.e., working at heights, confined spaces) Drug and alcohol testing.Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Project Management or related discipline, or equivalent experience in the workplace.Required years of similar experience: 6-10Broad mining relevant work experience essential across all the mining lifecyclePrior experience leading a team in a diverse cultural environment in a mining context.Proven track record for the delivery of project objectives and established targetsProficient in English with excellent verbal, written communication, and public speaking skillsComputer proficiency in MS Office suiteSound planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training.Spreadsheet/database applications (intermediate)Capacity to learn new software (general)Comfortable with IT for maximum org. effectivenessPrevious experience working in a remote location in a developing country.The RequirementsMust be open to FIFO in PNG.Ability to complete a pre-employment medical assessment.Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.Our Commitment to YouNewmont is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
