About your opportunity:

Casual positions available, Location: Townsville

This opportunity is suited to motivated Occupational Therapy Students to join our Occupational Therapy Team at Townsville University Hospital as an Occupational therapy Cadet. The position will assist in the delivery of services to patients, by undertaking basic duties under the close clinical practice supervision of experienced occupational therapists and alongside the Occupational Therapy Assistant Workforce. This round of recruitment is targeted at 2nd and 3rd year occupational therapy students who are interested in complementing our existing cadet workforce.

You will have the opportunity to work in a variety of clinical environments across acute and subactue facilites of the Townsville University Hospital. The position is ideal for students seeking to develop experience and gain insight into the role of occupational therapy within a tertiary hospital setting, while applying some of their knowledge and skills learned from university studies.

The ideal candidate will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following: 

  • Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge in occupational therapy, including knowledge of the healthcare system, computer literacy, medical terminology, general medical conditions and basic anatomy.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively as part of a team with a good understanding of own scope of practice in a complex and demanding work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to quality improvement activities with increasing ownership within the scope of practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide a defined range of assessments and treatments within approve scope of practice, whilst supervised by an Occupational Therapist.
  • Demonstrated clinical experience achieved through student placement and/or experience working in a health setting (hospital or community based) e.g. disability support worker, allied health assistant.

Requirements:

  • Proof of qualification (Occupational Therapy), registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and possession of a current practising certificate.
  • This is a Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Pertussis.
  • Possession of class C drivers' licence.
  • Roster: This position is required to work on weekends and public holidays on a rostered basis through the Department's Weekend Service.
  • Probation period may apply.
  • Pre-employment checks will be conducted.
