What You Will Be Doing
Advanced Trainee – Full time – 8 positions
Peninsula Health is a leading Tertiary teaching and research Health Service affiliated with Monash University.
The Department of Geriatric Medicine at Peninsula Health is a growing and vibrant unit with a commitment to become one of the leading such units in Victoria. The faculty consists of thirteen geriatricians (sessional/full time) who are substantially invested in ensuring trainees achieve their goals. Trainees are also supported in their projects and quality/systems initiatives by a state-of-the-art Research and Academic Unit led by Prof. Velandai Srikanth, Geriatrician and Professor of Medicine.
Inpatient services include a 20 patient Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE) ward, an Orthogeriatric service at Frankston Hospital, and three 30 bed GEM wards at The Mornington Centre. A 50 bed Transition Care Programme (TCP) located in an aged care facility. In addition to the bed based inpatient services the trainees can gain community/ ambulatory care experience through the newly commenced “Better@ home”. The Better @ home service incorporates a ‘Journey to home’ component which includes assessment and care planning of older patients in the acute hospital setting and a ‘ ’ component which incorporates providing medical input into the care of the older patient within the community, in their home. A rotation to the Palliative Care Unit can be offered to interested candidates.
A full complement of specialty and general clinics are offered to the trainees including CDAMS, Falls & Balance, Continence & Urodynamics, Chronic Wound Clinic and Geriatric Medicine Clinic.
Peninsula Health is committed to encouraging and fostering an environment of continued learning and skill development. Trainees are ensured protected training time. They are encouraged and supported to attend local/National conferences and workshops. In addition, they are required to participate in a fortnightly Journal Club, weekly grand rounds, fortnightly M&M meetings and the South Eastern Training Alliance sessions, one of which will be conducted annually on-site at Peninsula Health.
The unit has a strong faculty with a keen interest in research and there is opportunity to be part of substantial clinically relevant research projects.>
What You Need
We anticipate you will have:
• MBBS or equivalent
• Eligible for registration with AHPRA as a medical practitioner
• Demonstrate appropriate level of experience and skills in medical assessment and clinical management of patients.
• A current Working with Children check (WWCC)

• AHPRA General. Provisional or Limited (Level 2 supervision as a minimum) Registration
• Able to demonstrate appropriate level of experience and skills in medical assessment and clinical management of patients
• Ability to work as an effective team member of an inter disciplinary team
• You must hold a current Employee Victorian Working with Children Check (WWCC) It is requirement for all medical staff.
• You must provide a minimum of 2 satisfactory references to accompany your application. Only details of a direct Supervisor you have worked with in the past 18 months will be accepted..
