Our Safety, Health & Wellness team within the People & Culture department is currently seeking two Workplace Safety Specialists to join their team of professionals. This is an ideal opportunity for a collaborative, self-directed individual who is curious about the intersection of physical, psychological and social well-being to effective workplace safety and health risk management. These are non permanent, term positions that are expected to run for approximately 2 ½ years.

Reporting to the OHS Manager, your overall responsibility will be to provide leadership, expertise, and assistance to workers, supervisors and managers across all departments in the daily execution of the City’s Safety Management System (SMS), and the Transportation Safety Management System (TSMS)
You will also play a critical role in the ongoing maturing of the Safey Management Programs while supporting stakeholders with regulatory compliance and effective daily engagement in the City’s SMS.
This position is evolving to meet the changing needs of the organization and will have enhanced coaching responsibilities to proactively educate and elevate behavior that supports and reinforces safety and well-being. Using your advanced coaching and influencing skills, you will establish a proactive, ongoing presence on work sites across the organization to build relationships; develop, enhance and implement SMS and TSMS programs; and support the resolution of safety-related behavior concerns, when they arise. You will have involvement in incident investigations and post-incident follow-up, that will include partnering with other organizational stakeholders to develop and implement strategies that turn issues into successful opportunities to learn and enhance the growth of the SMS and TSMS. This will include ongoing assessment of corrective actions and continued coaching, as well as completing regulatory documentation and reporting.
