Working within the Department of Dentistry, a busy hospital based dental clinic you will perform a variety of dental assisting duties. You will assist the dentists, specialists, residents, and hygienists during restorative, preventive and surgical procedures so that as a team, the dental staff can deliver the most efficient, effective care possible. Our clinic specializes with medically complex care along with Adults with special needs, providing all aspects of dental care. Our team consists of general dentists as well as various specialists.

Performing a variety of dental assisting duties required to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of Clinic operations you will ensure the optimal function of the Dental Operatory at your assigned site and the clinic. You will assist the dentists, residents, and hygienists during restorative or preventive procedures so that as a team, the dental staff can deliver the most efficient, effective care possible.

Responsibilities
  • Participates in Quality Assurance duties, including recording daily, weekly, monthly and annually quality assurance records.
  • Ensure all procedures are performed in accordance to policy and procedures.
  • Prepares and organizes the dental operatories with appropriate dental and surgery instruments, equipment and materials.
  • Dental Charting for dental clinicians, residents and students.
  • Review patient records in preparation for appointments/treatments
  • Expose, process, mount and record radiographs requested by the dentist, as qualified with the Ministry of Health, under the Healing Arts Radiation Protection Act
  • Reprocessing, packaging, sterilizing and maintenance of instruments and equipment, in accordance with RCDSO, departmental and hospital infection control policies and standards of practice.
  • Ensure maintenance of equipment, report any problems to the clinic manager.
  • Manage the ordering of supplies; inventory management.
  • Excellent communication skills with patients and staff
  • Performs all other clinical duties assigned in keeping with legislated roles.
Job Requirements
  • Successful completion of a post-secondary Dental Assistant Diploma from an accredited educational institution. Certified Dental Assistant with HARP (Healing Arts Radiation Protection) certification.
  • Minimum of fives (5) years of recent related dental assistant experience in a busy multi-practice environment. Applicants with equivalent recent and related training and experience may be considered
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in dental assisting, charting and asepsis.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively function as a team member both intra and inter-departmentally and able to establish excellent working relationships with the Clinical Staff.
  • Proven flexibility, initiative, organizational and problem solving/decision making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new skills to treat the medically compromised patient and persons with disabilities. Proven organizational skills and the ability to manage a varied workload.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality customer/patient service.
  • Awareness of patient related and other clinic confidentiality issues.
  • Ability to speak, read, write and/or understand verbal instructions in English, as appropriate to the position.
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history.
