About the role

The Ipswich Emergency Department is recognised as one of the busiest emergency departments in Queensland, seeing 67,000 presentations per year with 25% of the presentations being recognised as paediatric. The case mix within the department is ever changing. The population growth within the Ipswich region is predicted to increase by 113% in the next 10 years. The Ipswich Hospital emergency department provides opportunity for emergency registered nurses to care for patients ranging from neonatal to geriatrics.

The registered nurse supports excellence in nursing care and patient outcomes, is a competent clinician who provides nursing care with clinical competence and capability, optimising access to care services. The registered nurse works in partnership with the multidisciplinary team to provide person and family centred, quality, safe patient care.   

The Registered Nurse  Emergency Department  provides contemporary, evidence based nursing services and demonstrates competence in the provision of nursing care as specified by achievement of the standards of practice and registration requirements from the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). This is evidenced by educational preparation, continuing professional development, adhering to relevant legislation and the context of care.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Contemporary clinical knowledge in the area of Emergency nursing, delivering competent nursing care in complex situations while providing support to other team members. 
  • Ability to provide patient and family centred care to the patient using best practice and within the standard of practice of a Registered Nurse.
  • Ability to communicate to a high standard effectively and engage with members of the healthcare team, patients, relatives and visitors whilst displaying a high level of professional nursing care.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships, open communication and a positive environment within a multidisciplinary team, actively contributing to the learning and development of others to a high standard.
  • Ability to educate, inform, counsel and support patients and families on general and clinical information relevant to patient's care, accessing the Clinical Nurse when expert advice is required.
  • Ability to comprehensively assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care.

Mandatory Requirements:
