About the role

It is the purpose of this role to provide culturally sensitive social, emotional and spiritual well-being support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with a mental illness, including direct care coordination and support to the consumer, their families and community, this support is provided by assertive outreach into the community.   This position also works as a member of a mental health multidisciplinary team in the provision of triage and assessment for people accessing mental health services, and advice to staff on social and cultural aspects of assessment, treatment and recovery.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following within the context of the “key accountabilities” found in the role description:

  • Appointment to this role requires a minimum qualification level of:
    • Certificate IV / Diploma in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, or
    • Certificate IV / Diploma in Mental Health (CHC53315), or
    • Certificate IV / Diploma in Alcohol and Drugs (CHC53215) or
    • Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work
  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification. Certified copies of the required information must be provided prior to the commencement of duties.
  • Note: other relevant qualifications may be considered upon individual application (i.e., qualifications in relevant area – e.g., Social Welfare, Community Practice, Counselling)
  • It is a requirement of this role that applicants have experience working in a mental health care setting and/or with consumers who have a mental illness.
  • The incumbent is required to operate a motor vehicle. As driving may be a significant task in the delivery of this position's objectives, proof of a current 'C' Class licence must be provided.
