The Ambulatory Care Team at the Mackay Base Hospital are seeking applications for a Clinical Nurse (Urology) to join their team on a temporary basis.

Your opportunity

The Clinical Nurse provides advanced level clinical skills to ensure patient-focused evidence-based nursing care, plans and coordinates the clinical management of patient/client care and provides leadership and support to other nursing staff and students.

The Clinical Nurse (Urology) works closely with and assists, the Urology Consultant,

Registrar and Residents by providing clinical expertise & knowledge as an advanced urology / continence advisor and stomal therapy nurse.

Provides expertise, support & assistance to ED, General Surgical, Renal, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Oncology services as required throughout the MHHS & tertiary centres including TTH, PAH, RBWH.

Works as a Team Leader, utilizing advanced practice skills to assist with the management of the urology OPD clinics. Ensuring all theatre bookings and urology procedures are completed. Provides education, information and counselling to patients preoperatively. Ensures required pre-operative pathology is ordered and checked.

Provides clinical knowledge and knowledge for patients requiring:

  • Flexible cystoscopy clinic performed in OPD procedure room.
  • Nurse led urology OPD clinics: E/Blue referrals sent directly to Urology Nurse.
  • Trial of void.
  • IDC and SPC management and education.
  • Uroflow measurements – pre ad post void bladder scanning.
  • Removal of ureteric stents post operatively.
  • Bladder washouts.
  • Urology operating theatre days actively manage pre-operative work-up.
  • Inpatient visits: post-operative reviews and patient education.
  • Providing in-service education to staff and mentoring students.
  • ISC education.
  • Intravesical botox injections for neurogenic (overactive) bladder.
  • Intravesical treatment for bladder cancer.
  • Medical imaging, bloods, urine pathology and prescriptions prior to the commencement of treatments.
  • Ensuring follow up cystoscopy is scheduled post treatment for surveillance.
  • Assisting patient to complete MASS and CAPS applications and renewals.
  • Chart reviews.
  • Clinic workups for urologists and flexible cystoscopies.
  • Competence with Surginet.
  • Post operative phone calls.
  • Referring patients to other allied health services.
