You will be responsible for the verification and validation of results, and actively support the provision of a client–focused and cost-effective laboratory service.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following key capabilities, knowledge and experience. Within the context of the responsibilities described above under ‘Your key responsibilities', the ideal applicant will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to perform simple to complex investigations in Molecular Diagnostics is essential, with Microbiology and Chemical Pathology also desirable.
  • Ability to efficiently prioritize specimens, perform tests accurately and efficiently without direct supervision and work independently towards the logical solution of scientific and technical problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team and to communicate effectively with clients, clinical staff and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability (or ability to rapidly acquire the skill) to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation / certification.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the provision of a client-focused and cost-effective laboratory service.
  • Availability to work various day and evening shifts as required for the efficient running of the TPCH Laboratory.

Qualifications, registrations and other requirements

  • The successful applicant must at least hold a relevant recognized tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in Medical Laboratory Science.
  • Whilst not mandatory, experience within molecular diagnostics would be well regarded.

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements

  • It may be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
  • Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies may also be required for this position.
  • Existing staff that are engaged prior to 1 July 2016 are not subject to this condition of employment unless they apply for a role with VPD requirements that is with a different Queensland Health entity (i.e. one HHS to another HHS, Department to a HHS, or HHS to Department).
