Provide expert advice to peers and relevant stakeholders on professional, scientific, resource and operational issues relating to service provision and provide after hours support and advice on complex scientific and technical issues. Participate in supervisory visits to Group laboratories.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and demonstrated competence in all aspects of diagnostic Chemical Pathology testing, as well as a working knowledge of and ability to work in other laboratory departments.
  • Demonstrated high level of communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to pursue self-directed educational activity.
  • A demonstrated commitment to working in a team environment with demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, co-ordinate, train and evaluate staff to achieve departmental objectives.
  • A demonstrated commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement, and a contemporary knowledge of NATA/ISO accreditation/certification.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to acquire knowledge of, procedures policies and regulations which impact on the position, in particular the Queensland Health Code of Conduct, and a knowledge of contemporary human resource management issues such as work place health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination.

Qualifications, registrations and other requirements

The successful applicant must hold a Bachelor of Applied Science in Medical Laboratory Science (or agreed equivalent) from a recognised university or tertiary institution.

  • In some circumstances and following consultation, Queensland Health staff may be required to participate in 24 hour shift, on-call or weekend roster arrangements.
  • Please detail any visa conditions you may have if you are not a permanent resident of Australia.
