Anaesthetist/ Anesthesiologist

Your New Employer
A major regional hospital that received a prestigious award recognising the commendable work of its team in driving change and improving the health outcomes for the Victorian community. The hospital offers a broad range of specialist health services across Gippsland, including hospital-based, sub-acute, and mental health services. The hospital is undergoing a multi-million expansion, expected to be completed soon. The expansion will offer improved maternity and paediatric facilities, a larger intensive care unit, increased medical and surgical beds, and additional operating theatres. This makes it an exciting time to join the team.
Your New Department And Role
The Anaesthesia department provides clinical anaesthesia to all major surgical specialties (except cardiac and neurosurgery). There is a busy general surgical service (including major abdominal cases) and regular sessions with visiting specialist thoracic surgeons, urologists, and ENT surgeons (including paediatrics). There is an active vascular intervention suite and a growing cardiac catheterisation laboratory. Plans for a ‘hot STEMI’ service are underway and will likely be operational soon. These will inevitably increase opportunities for interested anaesthesiologists to be involved in caring for patients with more complicated cardiac disease.
The Orthopaedic Surgical service is busy and has daily elective and emergency lists. Major joint replacements and orthopaedic trauma are commonplace. There is also a busy Elective and Emergency Obstetric service (which functions as the regional referral centre for higher-risk obstetrics).
The Department of Anaesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine has developed an innovative partnership with a leading tertiary health service in Victoria with state-service responsibility in trauma, burns, and cardiothoracic transplant services (among others). This unique opportunity blends aspects of clinical experience across both health services - one a large tertiary centre and the other a major regional hospital. For the right candidate, this partnership has the scope to facilitate strong collaboration in research, education, and clinical practice. There is the potential for dual appointments by mutual agreement.
