Occupational Health Manager

Our client is a privately owned, £1.5 billion construction company with over 150 years’ experience within international construction and civil engineering.

They are currently looking to recruit an Occupational Health and Wellbeing Lead, on a 1 year FTC due to Maternity Leave. This role can be based out of a number of their regional offices, with some flexibility required to travel within the UK, and opportunity to travel to Ireland and mainland Europe on occasion.

Occupational Health and Wellbeing Lead roles and responsibilities:


Reporting to the Head of Occupational Health and Wellbeing, this role will be a blend of administration/co-ordination but also research, design and delivery of key Occupational Health and Wellbeing programmes across the Group.


The role will require the successful candidate to work closely with key internal stakeholders such as HR, Health and Safety and their project-based teams, and also external stakeholders.


  • Administration and coordination of various initiatives, including intoxicants testing, health screening, flu vaccination programmes, safety critical worker medicals etc.
  • Research, design and delivery of effective health protection programmes to address construction-related hazards such as noise, vibration, chemicals, dusts etc.
  • Support and promote mental health programmes and initiatives that align with the company-wide strategy.
  • Creation of occupational health-related policies, procedures and guidance to form part of our OHS Management System.
  • Conduct DSE Assessments and lead on the wider DSE Assessment programme.
  • Design and delivery of Occupational Health and Wellbeing content at corporate inductions.
  • Management of Occupational Health content on intranet.
  • Collation of metrics and data relating to Occupational Health programmes and activities to feed into Power BI dashboards.
  • Work closely with third party occupational health service providers in effective delivery and management of services.
  • Any other duties associated with occupational health and wellbeing.


Occupational Health and Wellbeing Experience & Skills:


  • Knowledge and understanding of work-related health hazards and exposures
  • Experience of coordinating health screening programmes
  • Experience in research, design and delivery of occupational health programmes
  • High level of planning and organisational skills
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and to strict deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good IT literacy, especially Excel
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Good technical writing skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to work closely with internal and external stakeholders and to create strong working relationships
  • Strong interest in workplace health promotion and mental health


Occupational Health and Wellbeing Qualifications & Training:


  • Degree qualified (or similar) in occupational health, health and safety, or other relevant health-related discipline (Required)
  • NEBOSH or IOSH qualification (Desirable)
  • DSE Assessor Training (Desirable)
  • Occupational Hygiene (Desirable)
  • Mental Health Awareness Training (Desirable)
