About the role

Caboolture Hospital has an exciting opportunity in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to commence in 2025 which would be suited to a RANZCOG advanced trainee.  An advanced trainee is a registrar in their final two years of the obstetrics and gynaecology training program and may also be known as a senior registrar. “Senior registrar” in the context of this appointment does not mean senior registrar as defined by the Medical Officers (Queensland Health) Award – State 2015. 

There is the potential for two positions, suited to 5th and 6th year positions respectively.

  • The roles aim to prepare the advanced trainees for a consultant role.  Supervision will differ depending on the various skills and experience of the trainee, but duties will include:
    • Independent as well as supervised operating
    • Opportunity to gain advanced laparoscopic and pelvic floor operating skills
    • Independent and supervised running of outpatient clinics, including urodynamics, vulvoscopy and colposcopy
    • Supervision and mentoring of junior registrars
    • Educational activities and opportunity to apply for teaching affiliation with University of Queensland
    • Teaching and supervision of surgical skills to junior registrars / PHOs
    • For the final year trainee, participation in the after-hours consultant obstetrics and gynaecology roster with supervision appropriate to level of training, including weekly remote on-call duties with appropriate backup
    • Clinical governance role including
      • For the final year trainee, primary responsibility for rostering for the department
      • Quality improvement activities
      • Research, to include supervision of junior staff
    • Opportunity to perform supervised ultrasonography within the department of imaging.
  • The role provides trainees with opportunities to complete the following RANZCOG advanced training modules;
    • Generalist Obstetrics
    • Generalist Gynaecology
    • Hysteroscopic and Laparoscopic Surgery
    • Colposcopy.

About you

  • RANZCOG registered trainee eligible for Advanced Training.
  • Completion of RANZCOG basic training requirements.
  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
