MPA Recruitment have been retained by a leading Children & Family Services organization in Ontario to recruit for an Occupational Therapist to join their growing team in Markham. The successful candidate will work between 21 – 35 hours per week by mutual agreement.
In this role, you will be responsible for completing occupational therapy assessments and intervention for children (ages 0-18) with Autism Spectrum Disorder including but not limited to direct client assessment and treatment and parent coaching, as well as engaging in internal consultations, external consultations with relevant community partners, and further fee-for-service program development.
You may be scheduled to work evenings, weekends, split shifts, or shorter shifts of less than 7 hours per day. You will be required to work out of other client’s sites from time to time based on operational needs.As well, you may be assigned to work in different programs and services within the Autism division.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assessment: Evaluate the areas of person, environment, and occupation to determine root cause of functional concerns utilizing both informal and formal assessment tools to identify and set goals that are client/family centered, evidence-based and outcome oriented. This includes ongoing learning to maintain professional standards and current knowledge (for example: research, standardized assessment tools, trainings, etc.). Key responsibilities include: administration of formal and informal assessment, completion of written assessment reports, clinical interviewing, assessment interpretation, feedback and communicating findings and recommendations.

  • Consultation: Provide education both formal and informal to clients/families, colleagues, students and others within the organization and the community. This also includes decisions around suitability for services and tailoring treatment plans to meet client’s unique needs and troubleshooting clinical issues that arise.

  • Treatment: Deliver evidence-based treatment for clients (individual, group and/or parents), analysis and goal setting, documentation, progress monitoring, and discharge planning. This also includes professional development, workshops, independent reading, and peer consultation.

  • Administration: Attending agency meetings/trainings, internal communication, scheduling client and community appointments, managing occupational therapy files and managing documentation that adheres to college standards, as well as collaborating with the management team to further develop the role of the occupational therapist within the agency.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Canadian Occupational Therapy Program or successful completion of Canadian OT certification exam process.

  • Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO).

  • Membership in Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists or Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists is an asset.

  • Must have a minimum of one year work experience as an Occupational Therapist.

  • Experience in assessing and working with a pediatric clientele, with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder is necessary; familiarity with the Ontario Autism Program (OAP) and mental health experience is an asset.

  • Ability to work independently in a direct and consultative model, as well as a member of a multidisciplinary team is essential.

  • Experience with current outcome measures such as The Sensory Profile 2, Peabody Developmental Motor Skills, Beery-Buktenica Developmental Test of Visual-Motor Integration, and the McMaster Handwriting Assessment.

  • Strong written communication skills.

  • An ability to be flexible and responsive in delivering services.

  • Demonstrated clinical experience, proven communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively as a team member.

  • Some travel may be necessary.

  • Knowledge concerning cultural diversity and proficiency in other languages will be considered assets for this position.

  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including a Vulnerable Sector Screening).
