54323An exciting opportunity is available for an obstetrician to lead the birthing services at Joan Kirner Women’s & Children’s, Western Health, Melbourne, VIC.Is this for you?This role would suit a clinically active obstetrician with demonstrated clinical excellence and leadership experience whose values clearly support our commitment to women centred care and a culture of teamwork, collaboration and wellbeing that models the Western Health values and continues to build on excellent partnerships with midwifery and other staff.Ideally, you will be a skilled obstetrician who will thrive in a busy, diverse and modern tertiary maternity setting and one who gains satisfaction from prioritising tasks, allocating sometimes limited resources and achieving great outcomes in a dynamic environment.What you will do:The Clinical Lead for Birthing Services is a key clinical leadership role that oversees the quality, safety and improvement of our rapidly expanding tertiary maternity service which is currently birthing approx. 6600 women annually. The role is aimed specifically at the oversight and improvement of care provided through our Birth Suite & Maternity Assessment Centre.This role reports to the Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and will work collaboratively with the Head of Maternal Fetal Medicine, Team clinical leads and the Safety and Quality lead.The Clinical Lead Birthing Services will partner with the Birthing Unit Manager and Maternity Assessment Centre (MAC) Unit Manager to ensure a multi-professional approach to the delivery of care.The role is also expected to support our proud reputation as an employer of choice for RANZCOG O&G trainees and junior medical staff planning vocational training in the specialty.Where you will work :Joan Kirner Women’s & Children’s Western Health is located in the Western area of Melbourne, VIC. Easily accessed from most Melbourne suburbs by motorways, the hospital is 30km from the CBD.The division of Women’s & Children’s Services at Western Health is responsible for the provision of inpatient and ambulatory care across Maternity, Gynaecology, Neonatal and Paediatric Services.The Division continues to expand and develop to meet the Western region’s population growth, care complexities and demand. The service has seen significant growth over the last 4-5 years across all program areas in assisting to meet regional support requirements. The purpose- built Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Hospital, continues to support the growth of the service.In 2022/23 in the Women’s and Children’s DivisionMore than 6,800 babies were born; on average 18 babies per dayMore than 400 babies were born at Bacchus Marsh HospitalMore than 1,700 neonates accessed Newborn ServicesMore than 2,750 women accessed inpatient Gynaecology servicesMore than 2,600 children were admittedMore than 21,500 children were cared for in the Sunshine Hospital Emergency DepartmentMore than 120,000 episodes of ambulatory care were providedThis role is based only at the Joan Kirner site on the Sunshine Campus, St Albans VIC.Want to know more?If you think this role may be for you, we want to hear from you.
