Job Title: Hand Therapist

Location: Epsom & St Helier Hospitals

Salary: Band 6/7 - £25ph PAYE Direct Engagement (£29 umbrella equivalent)

Contract Type: Contract

Hours: 37.5 hours per week


Job Summary:


We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Hand Therapist to join our multidisciplinary team within the NHS. The successful candidate will provide specialized hand therapy services, including assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation, to patients with a variety of hand and upper limb conditions. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive environment, contributing to high-quality patient care.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients with hand and upper limb conditions.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans to promote recovery, function, and independence.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions, including manual therapy, exercise prescription, splinting, and education.
  • Collaborate closely with surgeons, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case conferences.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in accordance with NHS guidelines.
  • Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives within the department.
  • Educate and mentor junior staff and students, promoting best practices in hand therapy.


Essential Criteria:

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy.
  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Postgraduate training and/or significant experience in hand therapy.
  • Proven clinical skills in the assessment and treatment of hand and upper limb conditions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and evidence-based practice.


Desirable Criteria:

  • Membership of the British Association of Hand Therapists (BAHT) or equivalent professional body.
  • Experience in a hospital or NHS setting.
  • Advanced clinical skills in hand therapy, including complex splinting techniques.
