Alberta Health Services, Central Zone, is actively recruiting a Family Medicine Physician to establish a full-time Family Medicine practice in the community of Coronation. This position requires a scope of practice that includes community clinic, inpatient, outpatient, acute, long term care, and emergency room shifts for the communities of Coronation and Consort. Candidates require recent and relevant experience in all scopes of practice to be performed.

 

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Reside in and have their primary residence within the community;
  • Establish and maintain full time community based practice within the community;
  • Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide the Services;
  • Provide call assistance as per call schedules, including full time participation in the Emergency Department call schedules, as required; 
    • On-call guidelines for this area are as follows:

      1. Weekday evening call is from 1700 - 0800 hours the next morning. If the Consort physician is covering, they should be in Coronation at 1700 hours.
      2. Weekend call is from 1200 on Friday to 0800 hours on Monday. If Monday is a statuary holiday, then call is until 0800 hours on Tuesday. The on-call physician does rounds on hospital inpatients on weekends.
    • These are the hours for the local physician group covering on call for the 3 communities of Castor, Coronation, and Consort. Hours may vary when a locum is covering and then it is the responsibility of the physician for whom the locum is covering any hours the locum is not available.
  • Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the AHS Medical Staff Rules and AHS policies;
  • Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the Department of Family Medicine;
  • Participate in relevant Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs;
  • Contribute to and participate in other administrative responsibilities, as assigned;
  • Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues in support of patient care

 

Once chosen, the successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing practice or opening their own practice. This is the candidate's independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.

 Community Information:

Coronation Hospital & Care Centre has 10 Acute Care beds and 3 ER beds. Attached to the hospital is 23 LTC beds and 19 SL3 beds. Consort Hospital & Care Centre has 5 community support beds (Convalescence, Palliative, and Respite), Ambulatory Clinic/ER (available 0800 to 1700 Monday to Friday), and 15 LTC beds.

The town has a diverse religious following, there are two churches, an Evangelical Free Church and a United Church. Catholic residents travel approximately 20 minutes west to attend mass at the Catholic Church.

A new community hall was recently built and is commonly used for celebrations and cultural functions throughout the year.

Required Qualifications:

  • Have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (required with application), or a current Letter of Eligibility through CPSA.;
  • Recent and relevant experience in all areas of practice required;
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS);

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Pediatric Life Support (PALS);
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP);
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
  • Preference given to those with recent rural experience;
