Registrar or Senior Registrar (Advanced Trainee) - Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Women's and Newborn Services, at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, have a variety of full-time advanced training positions in 2025 that will enable highly motivated advanced trainees to gain great experience in tertiary level Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

(A) Senior Advanced Registrar – one position

(B) Advanced Gynaecology Registrar – two positions

(C) Advanced Obstetrics and Gynaecology Registrar – three positions

All positions will include –

  • Protected research and education time as per RANZCOG hospital accreditation standards
  • Rostered time for participation in the administrative duties of the department
  • Coverage of the after-hours roster with paid overtime/penalty rates (weekends, evenings, nights) in concordance with the clinical capability framework of the department and with the Medical Officers Certified Agreement is also expected to be shared amongst the senior registrar group with consultant support. This is important to achieve a level of increasing independence, sufficient experience, as well as teaching opportunities of the junior medical staff in a supported environment to help with the transition to fellowship.

Senior Advanced Registrar – one position

  • Ideally suited to an advanced trainee who is keen to consolidate their clinical abilities as well as to increase their experience in a leadership role with key administrative and teaching responsibilities within the unit and the hospital in general, specifically designed with the intention to assist with the transition to junior consultant.
  • This role has been flexible over the previous years to suit the successful candidate’s expectations in terms of their clinical experiences and can include experience in both general obstetrics and gynaecology, as well as subspecialty areas such as MFM, Obstetric Medicine, Gynae-Oncology, Urogynaecology and Fertility.

Advanced Gynaecology Registrar - Two positions.

  • Each with a 6-month rotation allowing a primary focus on advanced gynaecology surgery (either February to August, or August to February), with the expectation of 11 operating lists per month, including an advanced trainee led theatre list, as well as exposure to gynaecology outpatient sessions, early pregnancy clinics, gestational trophoblastic unit and dysplasia clinics, and acute gynaecology presentations
  • Expectation that for the other 6 months in the appointment, the successful advanced trainees will be rotated through equitably shared night duties, annual leave/holidays, and relieving in other senior positions within the department; allowing exposure to high risk / complex obstetric patients in a tertiary level birth suite.
  • Sufficient procedural experience to complete the required Generalist Obstetric and/or Gynaecology ATMs within the role, as well as speciality ATMs such as Hysteroscopic and Laparoscopic Surgery ATM, Colposcopy ATM).

Advanced Obstetric and Gynaecology Registrar - three positions

  • Designated as the advanced trainee to one of the general O&G teams (Yellow, Violet or Green) for continuity throughout the year. Each position has been allocated to 8-10 gynaecology operating lists per month when on day roster.
  • Exposure to gynaecology outpatient sessions and dysplasia clinics.
  • Exposure to high risk / complex obstetric patients in both an inpatient and outpatient setting.
  • Tertiary level birth suite experience.
  • Sufficient procedural experience to complete the required Generalist Obstetric and/or Gynaecology ATMs within the role.
