Health and Safety Intern

We are looking to bring on a Health and Safety Intern who will support our Project Safety team and HSE Manager on our ongoing projects. Based in East Vancouver, our work spans across the Lower Mainland, Sea-to-Sky and Sunshine Coast. As the Health and Safety Intern, you will become an integral part of the team and play a supporting role in the different aspect of the safety departments. Reporting to the HSE Manager, the ideal candidate for this role will undertake an array of different Health & Safety oriented tasks and responsibilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Promotes a culture of Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E) protection on the project by taking an active role in executing the HS&E program.
Performs and maintains administrative tasks such as filing and data entry.
Assists the Project Safety team with collecting contractors' safety requirements.
Gathers and analyzes safety-related statistics, site-specific trends, hazard assessments, incident reports, and findings.
Supports the Project Safety team with site orientation, and orientation for young and new workers on-site, including the development of toolbox talks and safe work procedures.
Participate in auditing and inspections.
Identifies and implements operational health and safety best-practice solutions.
Performs other related duties to assist and support health and safety work.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Core knowledge understanding of current construction safety practices.
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with multiple project teams.
Ability to multitask and maintain a high level of attention to detail.
Strong computer skills with an aptitude for learning new software programs.
Comfortable working on-site in various conditions
Requires a valid Class 5 driver's license and access to a personal vehicle.
Willingness to obtain First Aid training.
Enrollment in OH&S from BCIT or similar accredited educational institute is required.
Duration: Summer Term (June – August)
