SMARTech Occupational Therapist - Permanent Part Time Days

Northwood is currently accepting applications for an Occupational Therapist to join our SMARTech in Halifax!

Major Responsibilities:

  • Using a co-managed approach to care, consults with residents and provides assessments in an occupational therapy context (physical abilities, physical environment, mental abilities, social and emotional supports available, occupational performance)
  • Functions as the Team Lead for the SMARTech project
  • Builds capacity with respect to assistive technology at Northwood, supporting learning and advancement of occupational therapy practice within continuing care
  • Positions SMARTech participants as a partner in health and social care at the level they choose, including choices about when to let others act on their behalf.
  • Recommends the needed digital support network for participants to adopt the digital lifestyle of their choice.
  • Uses an inquisitive and creative approach to source out technology solutions for identified challenges.
  • Responds to questions re knowledge, research evidence and best practices on how technology can enable quality of life.
  • Fosters professional relationships with researchers, innovators, and clinicians working in the assistive technology field.
  • Recommends and oversees the installation and implementation of assistive technologies for resident performance
  • Completes administrative duties (e.g. tracking statistics and referrals, communicates with internal and external stakeholders).
  • Collaborates with nursing team to plan interventions for residents.
  • Instructs and educates internal stakeholders.
  • Completes written funding requests for resident specific equipment.
  • Flexibility in work schedule to meet the demands of the position

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelors/Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy
  • Registered with Nova Scotia Society of Occupational Therapists
  • Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia
  • Membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists or have established eligibilty
  • Two years of relevant work experience
  • Long-term care experience is considered an asset
  • Experience with special equipment is considered an asset
  • Excellent Communication, Organization, Interpersonal, and Problem solving skills.
  • Must be Patient, Supportive, Empathetic, Positive Attitude, Respectful and Professional
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular and consistent basis

Salary: As per the Northwood Scale

Start Date: Immediately

Hours of Work: 40 hours bi-weekly (8 hour shifts)
