About your opportunity

Dental Assistant / Charters Towers / Fixed Term Temporary part-time 48 hours p.f ASAP up to 01.05.2026.

The Dental Assistant will provide general chair-side support to Dental Officers and Oral Health Therapists, to ensure that dental treatment provided is of the highest standard. They will perform other support duties such as maintenance of instruments and equipment, ordering of clinical consumables and stock control, to ensure that dental treatment is provided effectively and efficiently.

Oral Health is one of the many primary health care services which sit under the Health and Wellbeing Service Group Corporate and Clinical Governance Structure. The Townsville Oral Health Service is responsible for the provision of oral health services across the greater Townsville Hospital and Health Service.

Generous remuneration package value up to $50,360 p.a. comprising:

• Salary range of $33.52 to $35.24 p.h. (CA3)
• Annual leave with 17.5% loading
• 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation.

The successful candidate will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following

• High level of skill and knowledge in all aspects of dental assisting, including infection control, and clinical support for all relevant age groups.
• Ability to work effectively within a team or autonomously, utilise discretion in decision making and prioritising.
• Ability to liaise with staff at all levels and patients in the application of quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, workplace health and safety and ethical behaviour.

Requirements

• Certificate III in Dental Assisting is mandatory for the CA3 position. However, if Certificate III in Dental Assisting has not been completed, then appointment will be at CA2 classification in the Dental Assistant Training position until successful completion of the qualification within 12 months of appointment.
• Proof of qualification and registration or membership (if applicable) with the appropriate registration authority or association.
• Possession of a ‘C' Class drivers licence is highly desirable.
• Undertake training and travel associated within Townsville Hospital and Health Service Policy.
• Working across the different clinics in the Townsville region is a requirement of this role and the potential of an overnight travel to our Hughenden, Richmond and Palm Island clinics.
• Potential applicants are advised that the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Act 2000 requires Queensland Health to seek a ‘working with children check' from the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian prior to appointment to this position. 5.1.
• This is a Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Pertussis.
