Assistant Head Nurse - Adult Trauma Coordinator

Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Manager, Trauma Services and Trauma Medical Director, the Adult Trauma Coordinator at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary promotes quality trauma care in the context of a provincial trauma care system through clinical, educational, quality, consultative, and data integration. This role contributes advanced clinical expertise to the care of trauma staff, patients and families. Working in collaboration with managers, physicians and staff, the Trauma Coordinator functions as a nursing practice leader, consultant, expert practitioner and educator. The Trauma Coordinator participates in the planning, development, review, revision and implementation of trauma standards, policies and protocols. The incumbent in this role provides educational, training and mentoring needs of staff and physicians involved in providing trauma care and are accountable to ensure the quality of care is at the highest standards possible. The Trauma Coordinator must identify, plan, implement and evaluate educational, training and mentoring activities, sessions, courses and/or programs for Zone staff and physicians providing trauma care. As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:
Membership with Alberta Association of Nurses (AAN). Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required. A combination of experience and education may be considered. Minimum of five years recent trauma, emergency or critical care nursing experience required. Experience in coordination and delivery of quality improvement initiatives and education program design with delivery and measurement of outcomes required. Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Nursing preferred. Membership with the Trauma Association of Canada (TAC) - desirable. Data interpretation an asset. Previous trauma coordination experience desirable. Quality Improvement/Assurance experience an asset. Emergency Nurse Certification or ACCN certification preferred. TNCC Provider/Instructor level preferred. TNCC Director an asset. Simulation facilitator preferred (WISE course completed).
