About us:

Cairns Hospital Pharmacy Department
The Cairns Hospital Pharmacy Department offers an extensive range of services to the CHHHS. Our department employs roughly 70 pharmacists including specialists in areas such as renal dialysis, sexual health, oncology, clinical trials, geriatrics, cardiology, emergency medicine and infectious diseases. 
Atherton Hospital Pharmacy Department
The hospital is a 62-bed facility providing a range of services including: emergency department, medical care, general surgery (limited), obstetrics and gynaecology, oncology (day unit only), renal dialysis, and allied health, as well as a suite of specialist outpatient clinics. A new clinical services building opened in 2023, featuring new inpatient wards for maternity and medical patients, contemporary emergency department and operating theatres.
Atherton Hospital provides a pharmacy service to Atherton hospital (57 beds), Herberton Hospital (38 beds) and 7 rural and remote clinics.
Mareeba Hospital Pharmacy Department
The hospital is a 49-bed facility providing a range of services including: emergency department, medical care, sub-acute geriatric care, maternity services, surgical care (limited) and allied health services. The pharmacy department provides services and care to hospital inpatients and outpatients, as well as the nearby correctional centre.

About you:

In your new role you will…

  • Demonstrate an ability to apply theoretical knowledge to the day-to-day practice of hospital pharmacy in a regional area.
  • Demonstrate an ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with staff and patients and apply interpersonal communication skills to address problems and present possible solutions.
  • Demonstrate time management and organisational skills and the ability to work autonomously where appropriate.

About your opportunity:

In this position you will deliver clinical pharmacy services to a variety of complex and diverse patients within the CHHHS catchment area as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

About your role:

  • Dispense patients' medications, in accordance with legislative, professional and ethical standards, ensuring effective and appropriate medications are provided for patients.
  • Provide a clinical pharmacy service that contributes to a continuum of quality use of medicines between hospitals and community.
  • Maintain and distribute pharmacy stocks in accordance with Queensland Health local policies, procedures, standards and guidelines
