Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

  • This is a modern laboratory with a positive culture and a high performing team, so qualities of resilience, well-developed communication skills and ability to contribute positively to a team environment are essential. (Central Specimen Reception Team > 60 staff)
  • Experience in pre-analytical processes, e.g. sorting, coding, data entry, aliquoting, parcel management, storage, retrieval of specimens etc, in a large and complex core laboratory unit.
  • Proven ability to solve problems and show initiative in the workplace.
  • High level leadership skills and a demonstrated willingness to succeed.
  • Proven ability to manage time effectively in a highly process driven environment with competing priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to meet and exceed client expectations.
  • Highly developed customer focus with experience dealing with a variety of people and a high level of awareness of impact of the individual on the overall customer experience.
  • Sound understanding of laboratory quality systems and the requirements of NATA accreditation and ISO certification.
  • Awareness of the human resource management policies applicable to contemporary workplaces.

Qualifications, registrations and other requirements

  • Nil mandatory qualifications are required for this role although a Certificate III Pathology (or similar) or ability to gain this qualification is desirable.
  • The Central Core Laboratory delivers a 24-hour, 7-day service. In this workplace, all newly appointed Core Laboratory staff are contracted to work any rostered shift within the 24-hour 7-day roster period, including overtime as required.  This facilitates the progressive review of staffing and shift arrangements in the Core Laboratory to accommodate changes in workload and service requirements.
  • The successful applicant will work one of three shifts between 0600 and 2200 but may be expected to participate in continuous shift rosters depending on the needs of the department.
