We are pleased to be able to offer this whole time post, which covers a population of circa 10,000 people aged over 65. The Consultant will be responsible for the provision of Older Adult Mental Health services based in the Banff and Buchan region of North Aberdeenshire, linked to 5 General Practices. In addition to this the Consultant will have responsibility for acute and organic admission beds at Royal Cornhill Hospital and in Brucklay Ward, based at Fraserburgh Hospital.This post is based at Royal Cornhill Hospital, a modern Psychiatric Hospital with a range of specialties, in close vicinity to the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.  One of the attractions of working in Aberdeenshire is a tradition of close working with colleagues from General Practice and the local authority. Since April 2016 this has been formalised as an Integrated Joint Board.   Aberdeenshire thrives as a centre of administration, education, tourism and trade with agricultural, service and textile industries.  Situated in Scotland’s Castle and Whisky country, the area offers a wide range of recreational activities such as golf, fishing, hill walking, surfing, canoeing, cycling, horse riding and winter sports. This is an opportunity to live and work in a beautiful part of Scotland that offers a great quality of life and has good transport links with the rest of the UK.   The post holder will be expected to contribute to Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching.  The post holder will be expected to register with the Continuing Professional Development Programme of the Royal College of Psychiatrists for which all costs will be met by NHS Grampian.  There are opportunities for research and close links exist between the Service and the Departments of Mental Health and Psychology of the University of Aberdeen.  The post holder will be expected to contribute to audit and other elements of clinical governance.  A detailed job plan will be agreed with the successful candidate at the time of appointment to meet service needs, taking account of the experience, skills and interests of the candidate and how they can best be used within the Consultant team.  The post holder will be expected to engage in annual appraisal towards revalidation.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview. 

Alternatively, applicants should possess a CESR / CESR (CP).    

 Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made.  Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR / CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be made.

The post is advertised as whole time.  Candidates unable to work whole time for personal reasons will be eligible to be considered for the post and, if appointed, an appropriately amended job description will be agreed.
