The role
The role reports to the Manager (Data Analysis) within the Health Service Research, Analysis and Modelling (HSRAM) unit. The Principal Data Scientist will contribute to the development of statewide health service planning for Queensland Health through research, analysis and interpretation of data and information.

The successful person

The key things we are looking for in a successful candidate are:
•    Ability to source, critically analyse, and interpret both qualitative and quantitative data and research, ensuring that insights gleaned inform strategic decision-making effectively. 
•    Highly specialised data manipulation and analysis skills, enabling them to perform complex transformations, develop advanced algorithms, and construct statistical models that underpin informed decision-making processes.
•    Demonstrate proficiency in utilising a range of data integration, analytics, and reporting technologies, whether on-premise or cloud-based, such as Azure, SQL Server, R Studio/ Posit Workbench, Power BI, Qlik, and/or Tableau. 
•    Be able to critically analyse data to identify patterns and derive actionable insights will be complemented by their ability to communicate findings clearly and professionally, ensuring that insights are effectively conveyed to relevant stakeholders.
•    Possess strong project management abilities, capable of both autonomous work and collaborative efforts within a team environment. Have superior written and verbal communication skills to enable them to articulate business and functional requirements 
•    Build the capability of their peers, offering mentorship and coaching to fellow data analysts and planners, and thereby contributing to the continuous improvement and growth of the team as a whole. 
Overall, the ideal candidate will exemplify a blend of technical expertise, strategic acumen, and interpersonal skills necessary for success in this multifaceted role.

System Planning Branch (SPB) is responsible for driving and overseeing a range of health service planning functions including strategic and statewide health service planning. SPB assesses statewide health service requirements, service supply and service capacity; develops statewide plans as well as supporting local health service planning; and informs investment priorities for service development and infrastructure initiatives. 
In addition, SPB undertakes time-limited projects on specific areas that contribute to the development of health services including statewide, HHS and clinically specific planning and strategy.
