Fixed Term Temporary part-time, 48 hours per fortnight from 08.07.2024 up to 30.06.2025. 

The opportunity
The Clinical Nurse Patient Flow Support Unit (PFSU) coordinates patient flow across Townsville University Hospital.  The Clinical Nurse works in collaboration with the PFSU Nurse Manager and has key responsibilities to proactively manage patient bed capacity, patient access and patient flow throughout the hospital.

The Patient Flow Support Unit (PFSU) operates 24 hours a day/7 day per week and is located on the first floor of the acute building of Townsville University Hospital.  The unit provides centralised patient flow management for the timely allocation of patients to clinically appropriate environments (home wards), considering patient safety, Queensland emergency access target (QEAT) and national elective surgery target (NEST) timeframes, while factoring elective and acute patient admissions, inter hospital and inter unit transfers.  The Clinical Nurse position works shifts Monday to Friday including public holidays.

  • Wage rate ranges between $61.20 - $62.48 p.h. (NG6-1)

Role requirements

  • Mandatory: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent is a required qualification for this position.
  • Highly Desirable: Postgraduate qualifications relevant to the position or working towards a relevant qualification.
  • Applicant ideally will have a working knowledge of a range of software packages used in the clinical and management environment, including the Microsoft Windows, Excel, Access, Matrix and Power Point.

The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:

  • Proven ability to comprehensively assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care at an advanced level within a complex environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with team members, patients and other stakeholders, including participation in relevant networks to achieve work unit outcomes.
  • Ability to provide nursing leadership in the clinical and professional setting including the role modelling of effective communication and problem solving.
  • Proven ability to use information and reporting systems appropriate to the position in order to achieve outcomes and identify areas for improvement.
  • Proven ability to provide clinical education and support at an advanced level and demonstrate own professional development.
