About your opportunity:

Fixed term temporary full-time | Six Months | Location: Townsville

This role is designated as Indigenous identified.  Under s.25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), it is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person.

This position will participate in the Better Care Together initiative, to manage and support the community engagement, development of a model of care, and coordinate establishment of a new social and emotional wellbeing service for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Townsville Correctional Centre and Townsville Women's Correctional Centre.

The objective of the new service is to improve the mental health and social and emotional wellbeing of people in-custody and in successful transitions back to community.  Design of the service will be achieved through interpretation and communication of qualitative data covering lived experience, families, communities, and partners input to co-develop a localised response.

The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following: 

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective professional, formal and community networks within a large, complex work environment and with a range of internal and external stakeholders including people with lived experience, community and government and non-government stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated project management and community engagement ability to plan, develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate project and communication activities, milestones, reporting mechanisms and feedback.
  • Demonstrated ability to consult, effectively and credibly co-design initiatives with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver outcomes and manage competing work priorities to meet agreed deadlines and commitments.
  • Demonstrate and actively contribute to a work environment that provides employment equity. Free from discrimination, and support the occupational health, safety, and wellbeing of staff.

Generous remuneration package value up to $12,000 p.m. comprising:

  • Salary range of $4516.20 to $4837.70 p.f. (AO6)
  • 4 weeks annual leave with 17.5% loading
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation.

Requirements:

  • While not mandatory, a relevant qualification (bachelor's degree in health sciences, community development or management) or willingness to work towards a relevant qualification would be well regarded.
  • Under s.25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), it is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person. 
  • This is a Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Pertussis.
  • Possession of class C drivers' licence.
  • Probation period may apply.
  • Pre-employment checks will be conducted.
  • All employees of the Mental Health Service Group may be required to work in other areas of the service.
