Undertake a range of routine and diverse scientific tasks in virus diagnostics and perform these to a high standard with minimal supervision.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

  • Base level or higher knowledge, expertise, skills, judgment and problem solving in one or more areas of viral culture, serology, molecular virology or virus research.
  • Ability to apply established principles to routine diagnostic virology services in one or more disciplines of culture, serology and molecular virology.
  • Knowledge and understanding of QA practices and procedures and regulatory compliance requirements (e.g. NATA, AQIS, OGTR, TGA) as applicable to a diagnostic service.
  • Ability to work co-operatively with and effectively participate in a single discipline or multidiscipline team and also contribute to quality or service improvement activities under supervision in the virology unit.

Qualifications, registrations and other requirements

  • The successful applicant must hold at least a tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in Science or Applied Science.
  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and if applicable registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
  • Please detail any visa conditions you may have if you are not a permanent resident of Australia.
  • We understand that some people may require adjustments to the workplace or the way the work is performed. All applicants are encouraged to advise the panel of any support or reasonable adjustments (i.e. building access, wheelchair access, interpreting services etc.) that may be required.
  • All newly appointed staff are engaged with the understanding that they will be required to participate in an On-Call roster and may be required to work any rostered shift within the 24-hour 7-day roster period, including overtime as required.
