Children's Health Queensland provides services from key locations in the Brisbane metropolitan area and works with the 15 other hospital and health services as well as NGOs and charity partners in Queensland to deliver an integrated network of healthcare services and support across the state.

Your Opportunity:

This position provides an advanced trainee with the opportunity to consolidate and build on their acute and critical care paediatric experience. Appointments are usually for 12 months, with 6 months spent in the Emergency Department  (ED) and 6 months in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). There may be some flexibility around this depending on the needs of successful applicants. The Emergency Department sees approximately 65,000 patients per annum and has a high acuity case mix. The PICU is a 36 bed unit and casemix includes a large paediatric cardiac surgical load with the unit having ECMO capabilities. The PICU provides a statewide service for Queensland and northern New South Wales.

The position of Advanced Trainee – registrar in Paediatric Emergency/Paediatric Intensive Care will: 

  • Deliver medical services through participation in clinical duties at registrar/advanced trainee level and in accordance with the policies and practices of the Children's Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service.
  • Demonstrate commitment to evidence based practice, research and quality improvement activities, including undertaking clinical audits and clinical risk management activities
  • Participate in educational activities within each department, including registrar teaching, and teaching of junior medical staff and medical students
