About you:

In your new role you will…

  • Demonstrate skills in the operation of a Needle and Syringe Program, with the ability to coordinate its delivery using preventive, harm minimisation and health promotion approaches.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of blood borne viruses and alcohol and other drug effects, particularly associated with the injecting of drugs.
  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate with a wide range of individuals and diverse populations in a confidential environment, including sound interpersonal and negotiation skills.

About your opportunity:

In this position you will work within the Needle Syringe Program (NSP) through the provision of a comprehensive range of sterile injecting equipment and provide education, information, and brief intervention strategies to promote the health and wellbeing of people who inject drugs (PWID). You will work in partnership with internal and external agencies and assist with local and national research/surveys.

About your role:

  • Fulfill the primary role of Needle and Syringe Program (NSP) for CHHHS.
  • Provide brief interventions, education, information, and referrals to NSP clients on topics such as safe disposal, blood borne viruses and other harm reduction topics appropriate to injecting drug use.
  • Establish partnership with government and non-government organisations to develop and implement health education activities, projects, and campaigns relevant to the reduction of drug-related harms for injecting drug users.
  • Comply with contemporary Human Resource Management principles and practice including Workplace Health and Safety, Equal Employment Opportunity, and anti-Discrimination requirements to ensure that the unit working environment meets legislative standards and Queensland Health Policy.
