About your opportunity

Fixed Term Temporary part-time, 30.4 hours per fortnight from 30.06.2024 up to 15.01.2025 with possibility of extension not exceeding 12 months.

To provide public health nursing services for the Communicable Disease Control section of the Townsville Public Health Unit (TPHU). This includes surveillance and investigation of notifiable diseases, providing expert advice on communicable diseases and immunisation to health practitioners and the community, and responding to disease outbreaks.

This position will be required to provide training, resources and expert advice on communicable diseases and contemporary immunisation practice.

This position will also provide support to the Public Health Nurses in Mount Isa and Mackay so some travel may be required at times such as in outbreak situations

Please note, from time-to-time this position will be required to travel to, and work at, other facilities located within the Rural Hospitals Service Group network to participate in meetings for planning, quality, performance, training and education, or clinical activities.  

Role requirements

  • Mandatory: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent is a mandatory qualification for this position.
  • Mandatory: Authorisation as an Immunisation Program Nurse to practice under the provisions of the Health (Drugs and Poisons) Regulation 1996.
  • Highly Desirable: Postgraduate qualifications relevant to the position or working towards a relevant qualification.
  • Adult Life Support Certificate: Must be able to obtain and then maintain an annual competency in Advanced Life Support as per Townsville Hospital and Health Service policy Life Support Training and Assessment -THSDCLI040151v6 (http://qheps.health.qld.gov.au/tville/policies/thsdcli/thsdcli040151.pdf(PDF) ( http://qheps.health.qld.gov.au/tville/policies/thsdcli/thsdcli040151.pdf ))
  • Travel: Travel by light aircraft may be required.

  • Salary range of $66.85 to $72.58 p.h. (NG7)
  • 17.5% loading
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation
