About the role

The Nurse Practitioner, within credentialed scope of practice provides nursing leadership, clinical governance, case management and complex clinical care and support for patients within Prison Health Services (PHS), West Moreton Health for the Opioid Substitution Treatment (OST) Program. The role will provide leadership in clinical decision making to support and facilitate safe and efficient OST provision to prisoners who are the recipients of healthcare services. The role includes the key co- ordination functions of complex evidence-based care delivery across a continuum, business and materials management, and education provision for patients and their family / carers and staff.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated contemporary advanced practice, expert clinical skills and knowledge in credentialed scope of practice and leadership capability enabling the delivery and support of high quality patient focused care in Addiction/Alcohol and other Drugs.
  • Demonstrates the ability to apply specialised knowledge of contemporary advanced nursing practice and theory in credentialed scope of practice and to participate directly and indirectly in the delivery of clinical care.
  • Demonstrates the ability to build and maintain strong relationships, open communication and a positive environment within and across the multidisciplinary team, actively contributing to the learning and development of others to a high standard.
  • Demonstrates the ability to educate, inform, counsel and support patients and families with contemporary clinical information at an advanced level relevant to patient's care and understanding.
  • Applies knowledge of quality improvement frameworks and associated quality processes including the integration of contemporary nursing research to all clinical activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact professionally and maintain professional relationships with all members of the healthcare team both internally and externally to the health service.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake a OST Program portfolio, developing and maintaining to a high standard encompassing quality improvement and processes.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16(PDF) ( https://www.health.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0009/150120/hed-0116.pdf )
  • Ability to meet credentialing requirements of WMH is mandatory for this position.
