The Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse (PCSN) is required to work at an advanced practice level utilising a high degree of knowledge, skill and experience in order to achieve optimal cancer outcomes and delivery of high quality and efficient cancer services. The PCSN Cancer Care Model of Care is consistent with COSA ‘Cancer Care Coordination Position Statement' (2015) and CrdrOSA ‘Model for Wellness in Cancer Survivorship' while underpinned by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia – Registered Nurse Standards of Practice.
The PCSN role articulates strongly with other malignancy-focused nurses co-located in the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service (SCHHS), linking with SCHHS Palliative Care Services, primary care providers and non-government organisations to ensure a strong network of support for those affected by a cancer diagnosis. The PCSN position is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the further development of this crucial aspect of quality care provision within the SCHHS.
The SCHHS operates as a ‘hub and spoke' model with services centrally located at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) and provides outreach services to Gympie and Nambour Hospitals. The PCSN, while based at the SCUH may be required to work at other facilities within the SCHHS. The PCSN may work in a range of practice environments including ambulatory settings and inpatient wards. Care may be face to face or over the telephone. An advanced level of competency with clinical skills, psychosocial care and communication is essential for the success of this position.
