An opportunity has become available for Senior Staff Specialists or Staff Specialists to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 10,000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.

About the role

The Senior Staff Specialist/Staff Specialist role provides clinical specialist psychiatry support to the Mental Health and Specialist Service, making a substantial contribution to the development of a culture of medical education and safe, effective patient centered clinical practice.

The Medical Director will manage either the CCC or ACMH service line which provides clinical care to patients and clinically manages on a day-to-day basis the associated multidisciplinary patient care team to ensure the delivery of appropriate patient care. In addition, the role provides professional leadership to the department and training, education and supervision to junior medical staff and other health care members.

Requirements for the role

  • Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B.
  • Tuberculosis screening - to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required.
  • Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed.
  • MBBS or equivalent registrable with the Medical Board of Australia plus FRANZCP or equivalent acceptable to the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and registrable as a Psychiatry specialist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Internationally trained candidates may require an acceptable Comparability Assessment undertaken by the appropriate Australian Specialist Medical College as part of the application process.
  • Relevant qualification/s and registration must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
  • Strong clinical and teaching experience in psychiatry.
  • The incumbent will be required to participate in an after-hours and on-call roster for Mental Health and Specialist Services.
  • Senior Staff Specialists/Staff Specialists report operationally to the Medical Director of their relevant service line and professionally to the Executive Director of Medical Services and Clinical Governance.
  • The Medical Director reports operationally to the Clinical Director of Mental Health and Specialist Services and professionally to the Executive Director of Medical Services, Clinical Governance and Research.

Salary information

  • Permanent full time
  • Estimated total remuneration up to $498,017 p.a., comprising:
    • Senior Staff Specialist: Base salary from $251,527 - $266,677 p.a
    • Staff Specialist: Base salary from $210,332 - $244,313 p.a
  • Up to 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • Motor vehicle allowance
  • Professional development allowance
  • Granted private practice rights
