About you:

In your new role you will…

  • Demonstrate competent level of skill, knowledge and expertise in social work practice, theoretical perspectives, social systems, legislation and policies relevant to the healthcare context.
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively and respectfully communicate, negotiate and advocate across teams, the organisation and external agencies under the clinical practice supervision of more senior practitioners.
  • Demontrate ability to read, interpret and incorporate information from clinical assessments and diagnostic conclusions into appropriate social work intervention; the ability to translate knowledge of systems, legislation and resources into discharge plans that provide patients with referrals to services and supports to maximise their health outcomes.

About your opportunity:

In this position you will deliver high level clinical Social Work services within the Cairns Hospital to ensure optimal assessment, clinical intervention, and discharge planning occurs for health service consumers as part of a broader multidisciplinary team.

About your role:

  • Deliver social work clinical services in accordance with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) Code of Ethics and AASW professional practice standards using developed assessment, intervention and problem-solving skills which reflect evidenced based practice, initiative and innovation and are undertaken with a degree of independence.
  • Assess the complex psychosocial needs of patients, families and caregivers to identify clinical risk appropriate to the patient group.
  • Actively participate in professional education within the work unit and professional team and contribute to research and quality improvement initiatives within the Cairns Hospital and for the Social Work profession.
  • Participate in clinical leadership and demonstrate developing and emerging level management skills (commensurate with experience) in monitoring and prioritising workload demands to initiate, develop and implement quality strategies that will enhance the delivery of Social Work services across all clinical areas of Cairns Hospital, with a on focus patient centred care.
