The Advanced Clinical Coder provides expert clinical coding and documentation advice and support to the Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) team.  The Advance Clinical Coder role will also work closely with the SCHHS Clinical Coding Services to ensure consistency of clinical coding practice and advice across the HHS.  The Advanced Clinical Coder reports to the Nurse Manager, Clinical Documentation Improvement Program.

Completion of / or working towards completion of a HIMAA Intermediate and Advanced ICD-10-AM Clinical Coding Course or equivalent. Completion of recognised Clinical Coding Auditing course and/or Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities include: 

  • Support the Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) team to reconcile external audit recommendations by undertaking coding quality audits including targeted documentation or ad-hoc audits as required.
  • Undertake targeted review clinical coding and associated allocation in conjunction with CDI documentation improvement focus areas.
  • Contribute to Clinical Documentation Improvement initiatives, including training and education material and actively upskill new and existing Clinical Documentation Specialists. 
  • Act as a resource and mentor for coding advice and expertise to members of the CDI team.

Remuneration value up to $80 358 p.a., comprising salary rates $51.69 - $56.24 p.h., employer contribution to superannuation (up to 12.75%) and annual leave loading (17.5%) (AO5) (part time position, 48 hrs p.f.).
