About your opportunity:

Permanent full-time / Location: Townsville

This is an identified position - Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community. 

The primary purpose of this position is to collaboratively lead the delivery and evaluation of effective health care initiatives, aimed at improving the health outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families.

To facilitate effective, coordinated and culturally capable health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children their families and carers accessing services within Health and Wellbeing Services, Townsville Hospital and Health Service.

To achieve this, you will:

  • Liaise and negotiate with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and health professionals in the Townsville Hospital and Health Service for the development, planning and implementation of culturally capable Health Services.
  • Provide cultural consultancy to health professionals and provide health education and support to the patients of the health services.
  • Support the Townsville Hospital and Health Service to achieve set performance targets in relation to the National Close the Gap key performance indicators.
  • Participate in the care of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients admitted to the Children's Ward and Outpatient appointments as per scope of practice.
  • Advocate for the child and family with health clinicians and support networks and other key services that are engaged with the patient in the primary, secondary and tertiary services.

  • Generous remuneration package value up to $108,466 p.a. comprising:
  • Salary range of $3526.50 to $4157.40 p.f. (HWF4)
  • 4 weeks annual leave with 17.5% loading

Candidate Requirements:

  • Mandatory: Diploma in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health.
  • Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community. 
  • This is a Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Pertussis.
  • Possession of class C drivers' licence.
  • Probation period may apply.
  • Pre-employment checks will be conducted.
