Provide operational support to Pathologist/Registrar in all aspects of tissue dissection including photographing specimens to record pathological features of interest as directed by pathologist or scientist and provide other specialised assistance as required for sampling of other surgical specimens including routine, paediatric and amputation tissue specimens.

Maintain a clean, safe and hygienic work area for all dissection areas, laboratory equipment, and ensure laboratory consumables and the specimen storage are compliant with all Safety, IVD, Accreditation and National Pathology Accreditation and Advisory Council (NPAAC) guidelines.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated ability and initiative to perform basic laboratory duties and ability to acquire skills in Histology and Cytology laboratories including specimen collection, data entry, preparation, macro-photography assistance at tissue dissection and other associated routine laboratory operational activities in s fast paced laboratory environment.
  • Demonstrated ability and initiative to follow correct procedures for handling biological specimens, and routine specimen preparation, assist in the routine histology laboratory areas and accurately prepare basic chemical solutions.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with both the immediate work team as well as in the wider work environment and to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated initiative and proven ability to work independently at times and to contribute to a high quality, efficient and effective workplace.
  • Availability to participate in rotational day and evening shift roster including weekends and Public Holidays

Qualifications, registrations and other requirements

  • There are no mandatory qualifications for this role however relevant experience or certificate level qualification will be highly regarded.
  • The successful candidate will be able to time manage and prioritse while working accurately in a fast paced work environment.
  • Candidates must be able to participate in a roster system, including overtime as required. Current
  • Laboratory hours fall between 0600-1800 Monday to Friday and rostered emergency call duties.
