About the role

This position provides clinical leadership through the development and delivery of specialist alcohol and drug programs / interventions to clients of the Prison Mental Health Service (PMHS) with concurrent substance use and mental health problems (dual diagnosis) to enhance the availability and access to appropriate early intervention and treatment options.

In addition, the PMHS works collaboratively with a range of other government and non-government agencies, including the Prison and Youth Detention Health Service (PYDHS) and Queensland Corrective Services in the ongoing care and treatment of persons with a dual diagnosis.

This position may be required to provide dual diagnosis services to correctional centres between the hours of 8.00am and 4.30pm on weekends.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated high level of knowledge, skills, expertise and experience in contemporary clinical practices related to the assessment, treatment and care of people with dual diagnosis issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide specialist clinical advice; to communicate, consult, liaise and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders engaged in service delivery to clients with dual diagnosis issues. This includes demonstrated skills and ability in the development and maintenance of collaborative partnerships at the individual, agency and inter-sectoral levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, develop, implement and evaluate a range of training materials and programs for staff involved in the care of clients with complex dual diagnosis issues and to provide clinical supervision and mentoring to less experienced practitioners to ensure maintenance of professional clinical standards, in collaboration with line manager.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and evaluate clinical practices, tools, protocols and guidelines to ensure optimum standards of care and outcomes for clients with complex dual diagnosis issues.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association within Australia. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
