Health and Safety Advisor

The Northern Alberta YMCA is looking for an experienced health and safety professional to deliver the YMCA’s health and safety program, including the development and implementation of all associated Health & Safety policies and procedures and training.

This position is also responsible for the review of incident and workplace inspection report and developing plans to strengthen the Health and Safety department and reports directly to the Manager of Health, Safety and Child Protection.

Position Responsibilities
  • Demonstrated ability to foster relationships/partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Train and advise employees on health, safety, child protection protocols and procedures
  • Assess ergonomics and tools for employee’s workstations and facilities
  • Conduct routine safety audits on job sites for quality assurance
  • Assist with annual COR audit and the development of action plans
  • Assist with the investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses, determining their causes and implementing preventive measures
  • Assist with developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs to prevent or correct unsafe environmental working conditions
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, provincial, and local safety and health regulations
  • Communicate with external health and safety regulators and insurance companies on safety matters as needed
  • Liaise closely with the HSCP Manager, Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) Claims Coordinator and HSCP team
  • Ability to develop and facilitate presentations to convey information or transfer knowledge
  • Adaptable to change and to apply knowledge in various value streams
What You’ll Need for This Job
  • Post-secondary education certificate/diploma in Occupational Health Safety, or NCSO
  • 2+ years’ experience in Occupational Health and Safety experience in workplace investigations and applications
  • Knowledge of the principles and best practices of WCB and case management
  • A valid class 5 license with a reliable vehicle
  • First Aid and CPR-C
  • Able to obtain a Police Information Check and Vulnerable sector and where Child Intervention/Enhanced Security check
