Alberta Health Services, in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, is inviting applications from Adult Psychiatrists to take the role ofPsychiatrist for Psychiatry Treatment Clinic/Outpatient Psychiatryat the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) in the Department of Addictions and Mental Health. The position involves assessment and treatment, including psychotropic medication management for patients in the program.  Patients are referred via the Access 24/7 program and are co-managed with allied health clinicians.

Alberta Health Services is Canada’s largest and only province-wide health service provider, providing care for more than 3 million people.  Our multidisciplinary teams consisting of nursing, psychiatry, psychology, occupational therapy, social work, education, and speech-language pathology provide education and assistance for more than 1.4 million people in Edmonton and surrounding areas.

The physician will be the primary psychiatrist providing direct care of addiction and mental health patients for the purpose of initial assessments, treatment care planning, pharmacological & non-pharmacological management and follow-up at the Psychiatry Treatment Clinic at the University of Alberta Hospital.  The primary clinic location will be UAH, though some may choose to also work at other suburban sites, depending on FTE. They will be expected to participate in weekly multidisciplinary team meetings and provide support to the team clinicians as required. There will be opportunities to work in collaboration with other psychiatrists and inter-disciplinary team members.  

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate medical students and/or resident physicians and will be expected to apply for a Clinical Faculty appointment, which will be considered through a separate process with the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry (FoMD).  The successful candidate will be expected to use the  Provincial EMR (ConnectCare) and AHS email,  and have openness to participation in other programs/groups and clinics.  There is an expectation to participate in the on-call system in the ER.

Remuneration will be based on fee-for-service billings submitted to Alberta Health.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have an MD and must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Psychiatry, for licensure in the province of Alberta.
