Speech Therapist (Paediatrics)

Salary range: CI$71,640 – CI$96,336 per annum

The Speech Language Therapist provides assessment and treatment in the areas of language, articulation, fluency, voice, hearing, swallowing, cognition augmentative/alternative communication and social aspects in paediatrics. The candidate will also provide and participate in patient and caregiver education to encourage generalization of target skills and in public education to increase awareness of communication sciences and disorders in the community.

Primary Responsibilities : The successful candidate evaluates hearing and speech/language test results and medical or background information to diagnose and plan treatment for paediatric speech, language, fluency, voice, and swallowing disorders. He/she monitors patients' progress and adjust treatments accordingly. Also administers hearing or speech/language evaluations, tests, or examinations to patients to collect information on type and degree of impairments, using written and oral tests and special instruments. The candidate records information on the initial evaluation, treatment, progress, and discharge of clients. He/she implements culturally responsive and culturally competent treatment plans for a wide range of paediatric communication disorders including but not limited to receptive and/or expressive language delays, social communication language concerns, developmental disorders, neurodiversity (including Autism Spectrum Disorder), phonological processing disorders, childhood apraxia of speech and augmentative/alternative communication methods based on own assessments and recommendations of physicians, psychologists, and social workers. The successful candidate will consult with and advise medical staff on speech or hearing topics such as communication strategies and speech and language stimulation. He/she should be comfortable working in a wide range of clinical settings including outpatient, home health and community settings. The candidate also provides patient centered instruction and support to the patient, their family members and/or caregivers and any other stakeholders to ensure there is a clear understanding of how to generalize target skills across multiple settings.

Qualifications and Experience: The successful candidate will have a Bachelor of Science (BSc. in UK, Australia, or South Africa) or Masters of Science (MSc. in U.S.A. or Canada) or equivalent in Speech Language Therapy, Speech Language Pathology or Communication Sciences and Disorders. Three (3) years of postgraduate experience is mandatory and either one of the following supplementary training courses:

  • Natural Language Acquisition
  • Augmentative/Alternative Communication methods
  • Bilingual therapy service provision
  • DIR/Floor time Approach
  • Intensive Interaction
  • SOS Feeding Therapy
  • Any areas of specialty with child language development
  • Any areas of specialty with autism spectrum disorder
  • Any areas of specialty with Apraxia of Speech and/or speech sound disorders

A remuneration and benefits package, commensurate with experience and qualifications will beoffered to the successful candidates.
